APLU Seeks Answers from OMB on Reported Word Restrictions at CDC

Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the very agency tasked with saving and protecting the lives of the most vulnerable, are now under order by the Trump administration to stop using words including "vulnerable" in 2018 budget documents, according to The Washington Post.

The ban is related to the budget and supporting materials that are to be given to the CDC's partners and to Congress, the analyst said. At that meeting, the agency learned of words prohibited for use in the CDC's budget proposal to be submitted to the Office of Management and Budget, which decides what to include in the president's 2019 budget.

Analysts were allegedly given alternative wordings that they were encouraged to use, in some cases. Others have speculated that the list did not come from Trump administration officials at all. They're not words that are banned in the department.

Ikea's tax affairs to be investigated by the EU
Systems bought the IP rights formerly held by Holding, using an intercompany loan from its Lichtenstein parent company. Another ruling from the Dutch tax authorities approved the price paid by Systems for the acquisition of the IP.

The report prompted widespread outrage, especially on social media among members of the science and public health communities who raised concerns about censorship of the nation's flagship public health agency, the politicization of science, and the adverse impact on certain groups.

The Trump administration has moved to remove regulations on religious groups. "We will continue to talk about all our important public health programs", Fitzgerald tweeted. At HHS alone, the administration has removed, from at least two federal health surveys, questions that would identify data specific to LGBT people.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State's Alison Tanner tells Politico that if HHS doesn't do an about face and make all 10,729 comments accessible to the public, "there may be grounds" for an Administrative Procedure Act "challenge for whatever rule comes out of the process".

Tillerson: N. Korea must stop 'threatening behavior' before talks can begin
North Korea has conducted more than 20 ballistic missile tests during 2017 and its most powerful nuclear explosion to date.

"Sources with knowledge of HHS decision say the agency hand-picked the comments that it released".

Americans United for Separation of Church And State have filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the contents of the comments that haven't been made available as yet. "This is part of a disturbing pattern across the Trump-Pence Administration of refusing to even study the unique healthcare and other needs of LGBTQ people, jeopardizing science-based assessment of heath disparities and undermining access to programs and services that are vital to the health and well-being of LGBTQ people", said Human Rights Campaign's Director of Government Affairs, David Stacy. The PRIDE Study (Population Research in Identity and Disparities for Equality) seeks to collect health data from individuals through its website over the course of decades.
