Google has released their annual list of the most searched global trends of 2017.

According to Google, South Africa's top search of 2017 was for the late Dumi Masilela, who was killed in a hijacking earlier this year.

Former "Today" show host Matt Lauer was the second most searched term in the US because of the prominent journalist's firing in November over sexual harassment allegations. Super Bowl 5. Las Vegas Shooting 6. Globally, Matt Lauer was the most searched person, followed by Meghan Markle, Nadia Toffa, Harvey Weinstein, and Kevin Spacey.

September's solar eclipse was the seventh most popular US search term, and the third among news searches.

But Cristiano Ronaldo equalized early in the second half and Bale netted the victor less than a minute after replacing Karim Benzema.

While the iPhone 8 appears to beat out the iPhone X, numerous searches for the iPhone 8 were likely for the iPhone X as the media was referring to Apple's flagship as the iPhone 8 until shortly before its unveiling.

Lauer, the disgraced former host of NBC's Today show, also appears in the number four spot for overall global searches (number two in US searches). The Netflix show "13 Reasons Why", which dealt with suicide, was No. 5, and Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington was No. 9 after he committed suicide in July. Chicken breast recipes were the most searched recipes in the world, beating out ground beef recipes, and more people asked Google how to make slime than how to make solar eclipse glasses.

Trump posted a screengrab of Weigel's Tweet on Saturday, along with photos of him standing in front of a packed arena. He continued: "CNN'S slogan is CNN, THE MOST TRUSTED NAME IN NEWS".

In other notable search results, the iPhone 8 outperformed the iPhone X in both general search and consumer tech searches for both global and USA audiences.

The most-searched athlete of the year was Floyd Mayweather, which makes sense, given the hype surrounding the crossover mega-fight between him and Conor McGregor. However, people searched for "how to help" more than ever.
