Pakistan frees Hafiz Saeed from house arrest

India on Thursday said mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks Hafiz Saeed's release from house arrest shows that Pakistan wants to mainstream terror organisations.

Describing Saeed as the "prime organiser" of the November 26, 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Kumar said the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) head is also responsible for unleashing numerous other terror attacks against Pakistan's neighbours.

A Judicial Review Board of Pakistan's Punjab province on Wednesday had issued orders to release Saeed, who had been under house arrest since January this year.

"When the government was not able to present any evidence to justify [Saeed's] continued detention, the court ordered his release when his current detention order expires [on Thursday]", said Hafiz's spokesperson, Nadeem Awan.
