The Kinect has died, per Microsoft. RIP 2010

The Kinect was first launched back in 2010 during the Xbox 360's life as a way to integrate motion controls into its line of games and expand the system's audience to broader appeal.

Essentially, the device was Microsoft's answer to the Nintendo Wii as more and more console companies, including Sony, wanted to get gamer's off of their couches. The Kinect core sensor v4 - and soon to be, v5 - power Microsoft's augmented reality HoloLens.

The new Kinect, despite its improved hardware, did not receive much love from gamers.

One of Albert Einstein's obscure theories was just sold for $1.5m
Einstein was among the founders of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and gave the university's first scientific lecture in 1923. It says: "A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness".

After years of limited interest from game developers, Microsoft has made a decision to kill its Xbox Kinect video game sensor. When Microsoft announced the Xbox One, the company bundled Kinect along with the console for $499, which is $100 more than the PS4.

So, if you still have one, dig your Kinect out of your closet and thank it for its service with one last spin of Just Dance.

Microsoft has said that it'll continue to offer customer support for Kinect in the meantime, which despite its sad ending actually sold around 35 million units since its release.

House Republicans announce new Russian Federation investigation - into an Obama-era uranium deal
Democrats have said Republican focus on the uranium deal is an attempt to distract from the Russian Federation probes. But when asked whether he would brief the White House in the future, he said, "If appropriate, yeah".

While the Kinect as a camera peripheral is dead and buried, and highly unlikely to resurface either as a brand or as a standalone camera/motion controller, Microsoft hasn't given up on certain parts of the concept. What that means is that Microsoft is no longer producing any new units of the Kinect. The motion-sensing and voice-recognizing device for Xbox One and Windows will disappear from store shelves once the current stock runs out.

Lapsen: "When we introduced Xbox One, we designed it to have the best experience with the Kinect".

Many could label Microsoft Kinect as a failed product, but the truth is the hard work behind the accessory has helped the company develop many other products.
