North Korea Says It Has Developed H-Bomb With 'Great Destructive Power'

North Korea said it set off a hydrogen bomb Sunday in its sixth nuclear test, which judging by the natural disaster it set off appeared to be its most powerful explosion yet.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff says a magnitude 5.6 quake in North Korea was artificial and it's analyzing whether the North conducted a nuclear test.

South Korea's weather agency says the apparent detonation set off a magnitude 5.7 quake, making the blast five to six times stronger than the North's fifth test in September 2016.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had earlier told reporters that a confirmation of the nuclear test, would be "absolutely unacceptable".

North Korea carried out two nuclear tests last year, the last almost a year ago, on the 9 September anniversary of the nation's founding.

Boats carrying fleeing Rohingya sink in Bangladesh; 26 dead
Bangladesh has recently stopped thousands of Rohingyas on the border, saying it is no longer capable of hosting the refugees. Eighteen bodies washed ashore in Bangladesh yesterday, a border official said, lifting the toll over the last two days to 41.

On North Korean television, a newsreader called the test a "complete success" and said the "two-stage thermonuclear weapon" had "unprecedented" strength.

Tremors caused were at least 10 times as powerful as the last time Pyongyang exploded an atomic bomb a year ago, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.

The report comes as tensions between Pyongyang and many world powers, particularly the United States, Japan, and South Korea, are at their highest levels in years.

State media reported that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un had inspected the weapon which possesses "great destructive power", and watched it being loaded onto a long-range missile launcher.

"The scale of the energy was five to six times more powerful than the fifth nuclear test", Lee Mi-Sun, head of the Korea Meteorological Administration's quake and volcano centre, told a televised briefing. North Korea conducted its first nuclear test in 2006. Trump has been warning the Kim regime not to test him, warning on Twitter that the American military was "locked and loaded".

Defying U.N. sanctions and global pressure, North Korea has been test-firing missiles at a rapid pace this year.

It was a "thermonuclear weapon with super explosive power made by our own efforts and technology", KCNA cited Kim as saying, and "all components of the H-bomb were 100 percent domestically made".

Juche is North Korea's homegrown ruling go-it-alone ideology that is a mix of Marxism and extreme nationalism preached by state founder Kim Il Sung, the current leader's grandfather.

North Korea has already threatened United States that the second step of military operations involving Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile will be directed at the U.S.Pacific island of Guam.

The missile was launched from the Sunan airfield in Pyongyang on Tuesday morning towards Japan and entered the air space over Hokkaido, said the Japanese government.
