US Successfully Tests SM-6 Missile Interceptor in Pacific

A missile from a U.S. Navy ship intercepted a medium-range ballistic missile in a test off Hawaii on Monday, according to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

Monday's test missile was launched from Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai in Hawaii.

"John Paul Jones detected and tracked a target missile launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai, Hawaii with its onboard AN/SPY-1 radar, and onboard SM-6 missiles executed the intercept", an August 30 U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) statement reads.

Arsenal agree fee with Chelsea for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Chelsea have reportedly agreed a £35 million deal with Arsenal to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain before the transfer window closes. Liverpool showed interest for Chamberlain but the player preferred to remain in London.

"The number of countries with access to ballistic missile technology, including some with the potential to reach North America or target Canadian and allied deployed forces, has increased and is expected to grow and become more sophisticated", the policy says.

SM-6 interceptors fired from the destroyer USS John Paul Jones brought down a medium-range ballistic missile target, the MDA said in a statement. Earlier this week, an intermediate-range missile, identified by the North Koreans as a Hwasong-12, was sacked over Japan.

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland says North Korea's latest provocative missile test is a reckless violation of Japan's sovereignty. In addition, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday dismissed any diplomatic negotiations with North Korea, saying "talking is not the answer".

Trump Concedes US 'May Fund' Border Wall But Mexico Will 'Ultimately' Pay
Trump on Sunday made a similar claim in a tweet insisting Mexico would pay for the wall "through reimbursement/other". It said the crime is a "shared problem" for both countries and is caused in part by US' demand for Mexican narcotics.

The sense of urgency can partially be traced back due to rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea's is rapidly advancing its burgeoning ballistic missile program.

The destroyer fired a Standard Missile-6 or SM-6 interceptor.

Due to the diplomatic efforts and sanctions failing to make headway in stopping the North Korea threat, Higbie is concerned the US may be forced to consider the military options.

India look to seal series
For Sri Lanka , spinner Akila Dananjaya scalped two wickets while pacers Lasith Malinga and Vishwa Fernando took one wicket each. Whereas the Lankans would want to keep the series alive by registering their first win in the ongoing India's tour.

In that test, the interceptor collided with the ICBM-class target over the Pacific Ocean a little more than one hour after it was launched.
