North Korea : CIA chief says 'nothing imminent' in standoff

'The US military is locked and loaded every day, ' he said, repeating Mr Trump's words.

U.S. Central Intelligence Agency Director Mike Pompeo also said that he has no intelligence that indicates an imminent nuclear war between the U.S. and North Korea.

"What we need - from an intelligence perspective, what is most important is that our communications are clear that the fella who intends to inflict pain on the United States of America understands the USA position in an unambiguous way". But it also might just want an excuse to fully test the capabilities of its new Hwasong-12 intermediate-range missiles.

"The president has made it very clear to the North Korean regime how America will respond if certain actions are taken", Pompeo said.

That was the second missile alleged to be an ICBM to be tested by the regime of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, after on July 4, it carried out a ballistic missile test, and claimed that the rocket was the much coveted intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

Police said the man in custody is likely to have acted alone, but they are not ruling out the involvement of other people. The two victims of Friday's terrorist attack were both Finnish, and among the injured were Italian and British citizens.

Joseph Dunford is traveling in Asia and is expected to meet with leaders in China, South Korea and Japan.

His journey to Asia comes as North Korea's Minju Joson newspaper said in an editorial that Pyongyang's army is "capable of fighting any war the US wants".

McMaster, appearing on ABC's "This Week", said "we're not closer to war than a week ago, but we are closer to war than we were a decade ago".

The move is a part of the procedure of tightening sanctions against North Korea amid the testing of the ballistic missiles by the Korean government on July 29 and threat of attack on the United States military base in Guam.

The White House said in a statement that Trump and Xi "agreed North Korea must stop its provocative and escalatory behavior". They both walked a fine line of backing the tough talk directed at Pyongyang, but not wanting to raise the alarm at home.

Peace with North Korea a 'possibility' says top USA general
Lindsey Graham of SC , a Republican, told NBC News that Trump told him that "if thousands die, they're going to die over there". The government in Seoul , however, is far from indifferent to its northern neighbor.

'We're not closer to war than a week ago but we are closer to war than we were a decade ago, ' Lt Gen McMaster said, adding that the U.S. was prepared to deal with North Korea with force if necessary.

CIA Director Pompeo also hinted that the USA will intensify its pressure against Pyongyang, saying that three will no longer be "strategic patience". In her opinion، the USA and North Korea are "very close" to a confrontation.

Last week, Trump issued stern warnings about the USA response to North Korea, saying the United States will respond with "fire, fury and frankly power" to such threats. "All those smart people who are criticizing his rhetoric and his policy, how well did you do?"

The agency's director told Fox News Sunday there was no need for people to worry yet.
