Fundraisers canceled at Mar-a-Lago after Trump's Charlottesville remarks

Trump has faced severe backlash after failing to sufficiently denounce the white supremacist groups at the heart of Saturday's "Unite the Right" rally, claiming in a Tuesday press conference that "both sides" - referring to the anti-racist protesters present - were at fault.

President Donald Trump's comments about the white nationalist rally last weekend are hurting not just his political standing, but his pocketbook.

The Cleveland Clinic, a leading hospital, has held its annual fund-raiser at Trump's Florida resort for the past eight years, but has recently come under criticism for supporting his business because of the President's health care policy.

Laurel Baker, head of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, called Mar-a-Lago a "morally reprehensible" business on Thursday, according to the Washington Post, and advised charities to review their mission statements.

Apple ramps up original video ambitions
To put that in context, HBO spent $2 billion on their original series in 2016, so it's a huge sign of intention from Apple . Netflix originals such as House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black cost more than $6 million annually.

Earlier this year, 1,700 nurses, physicians and medical students signed an open letter demanding the Cleveland Clinic move their February 2016 event from Mar-a-Lago. "It has become increasingly clear that the challenge to those values is outweighing other business considerations", the American Cancer Society explained when announcing that it was moving the two upcoming events it had originally planned to hold at Mar-a-Lago.

On Friday, The American Red Cross said it nixed their plan to host their annual International Red Cross ball at the Palm Beach resort because of Trump's response to the events in Charlottesville were controversial and distressing to their supporters.

The American Red Cross, the Cleveland Clinic, the American Cancer Society and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and several other medical organizations have canceled galas at Mar-a-Lago.

The Cleveland Clinic didn't give a reason for its decision.

Trump to return to Trump Tower for 1st time as president
The high security made getting around a bit of a challenge in certain neighborhoods, especially in the area of Trump Tower. Sign slogans included "The Trump/Pence regime must go", "Love Trumps hate" and "You're not alone, united we stand".

Cleveland Clinic CEO Toby Cosgrove was a member of one of those panels created to advise the president on the economy and jobs. Trump said on Twitter that he would end the forum and a separate American Manufacturing Council "rather than putting pressure on the businesspeople". The organization has hosted the event at Mar-a-Lago since 2007.

But they also reveal a widening vulnerability for Trump, who, unlike past presidents, refused to divest from his business interests when he joined the White House.

Donald Trump has owned Mar-a-Lago, the Palm Beach estate built by cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post, since the 1980s. The president of Leaders in Furthering Education on Friday urged the board of her charity to abandon Mar-a-Lago for the organization's annual Lady in Red Gala, slated for December 2.
