Man 'faked crying' when asked about gun in Clinton police officer killing

Michael was shot after he stopped a driver for a traffic violation.

As part of the investigation into Michael's killing, officers went to talk to Noble at his home in Clinton on Thursday morning, according to the affidavit filed to support the charge against Noble.

McCarthy fled the scene in a vehicle but crashed two blocks from the scene of the shooting.

The officer, Gary Michael, who was with the force less than a year, pulled over a suspicious vehicle around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Lowe.

William Grant Noble of Clinton, 35, has been charged with felony tampering with evidence.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges of first degree murder and armed criminal action. Police say Noble acted like he was visibly upset and faked crying. He also was wanted at the time of his arrest on a 2015 warrant out of Johnson County, Missouri, for unlawful possession of a firearm.

McCarthy served prison time in New Hampshire and, as a convicted felon, could not own a weapon. Noble said he panicked, took the gun and drove north out of town.

Noble allegedly pointed to the water and told police that's where he threw it. Police say they could see the stock of the weapon under the water. Lowe said McCarthy, 39, was suffering from a gunshot wound when a patrol trooper arrested him. He took the two officers to the creek Thursday, where they recovered a rifle that "meets the description and appears to me to be the weapon used in the murder", according to the probable cause statement.

Voting for Vice-Presidential election begins in Parliament
Venkaiah Naidu , with 516 votes, had polled the highest number of votes for a vice-presidential candidate in 33 years. In the previous NDA government led by party patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee , he served as rural development minister.

However, police say McCarthy then changed his story and admitted he purchased the firearm for McCarthy. He didn't seem to have worked since arriving in Clinton about four years ago.

"He's an odd duck", Hannah said.

Hannah said he set up a few job interviews for McCarthy but he never showed up to them.

Neighbors said they generally saw McCarthy only when he let his two dogs outside.

Break from the rain for most for end of the weekend
Highs on Friday will be just over the 70 degree mark. "Low to mid 80s expected for highs Saturday for most places". Rain and clouds will make for another unusually cool August day with afternoon highs in the 70s to around 80°.
