First major preseason poll is out

Texas was one of five Big 12 teams in the preseason poll, joining Oklahoma (No. 8), Oklahoma State (No. 11), Kansas State (No. 19) and West Virginia (No. 20).

The Seminoles, who topped MI in last year's Orange Bowl, are ranked No. 3 entering 2017 after ending the 2016 campaign at 10-3. The Seminoles received four first-place votes.

The Crimson Tide were picked first by 49 of the 65 coaches on this year's panel for the poll, which was released on Thursday. The Big 12 has the second-most teams in the poll, following the SEC, which has six teams in.

Notable by its absence from the poll is Notre Dame.

WSU, receiving 99 votes, checked in at No. 26 immediately behind No. 25 Utah.
