The incident happened when five defendants facing murder charges were taken to the court in the Moscow suburb of Krasnogors, a spokeswoman for the Moscow regional police said.

Two other criminals and three security officials were left injured during the incident in the Russian city.

Every one of the five suspects were cuffed as they were being taken to a court, Russia's Investigative Committee said.

The shooting occurred during an ongoing court process against members of the so-called GTA gang, who are accused of killing 17 motorists around Moscow between 2013 and 2014. According to Prosecutors, the gangs put spikes on roads to drive out motorists from their vehicles and shoot them dead. Sofya Rubasskaya said she saw a guard and a court official injured.
