Senate sends Trump US sanctions against Russia, Iran, North Korea

The legislation, meant to retaliate against Russian Federation for its alleged interference in the 2016 election, passed in a vote of 419 to 3 on Thursday, effectively veto-proofing the bill should President Donald Trump want to overrule it.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Wednesday that Moscow would likely retaliate against the United States if the sanctions are imposed.

A top Russian diplomat on Sunday lambasted the United States Congress for voting to sanction Russia, and warned of retaliation by Moscow.

Trump's concerns include a provision letting Congress stop any effort to ease existing sanctions on Russian Federation.

The U.S. House passed the sanctions package Tuesday in a 419-3 vote, sending the legislation to the Senate.

Weather Authority Forecast for Sunday Evening, July 30th
Summer showers and t'storms develop during the afternoon on Thursday as the atmosphere becomes more favorable for activity. Then some humidity and rain chances do return back into the forecast, which will bring another slight cool down.

Once Trump receives the bill, if he does not sign it, he has 10 days, excluding Sundays, before he must issue a veto and prevent the bill from becoming law automatically.

The Russia sanctions in H.R. 3364 are an unusual signal of disapproval of Trump from congressional Republicans. The president denies any collusion between his campaign and Moscow.

In an interview with CNN Thursday morning, incoming White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci suggested Trump could veto the measure.

Russian Federation has asked the U.S. to reduce its diplomatic staff by September 1 and has said it is seizing a dacha compound and warehouse used by United States diplomats in retaliation to new sanctions.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer derided as "laughable" Scaramucci's assertion that Trump could negotiate even tougher sanctions against Russian Federation.

The inmates are between 18 to 30 years old and were jailed on charges ranging from disorderly conduct to attempted murder. Six of the inmates remained on the loose, the statement said, including two who were serving time for attempted murder.

Republican leaders in the House pushed to add North Korea sanctions to the legislation last week.

The legislation puts Trump in a hard position.

Thursday's bill includes legislation that Donnelly co-led, the Countering Iran's Destabilizing Activities Act, which passed the Senate in June on a 98-2 vote. Lawmakers said they also made adjustments so the sanctions on Russia's energy sector didn't undercut the ability of USA allies in Europe to get access to oil and gas resources outside of Russian Federation.

If Trump chooses to veto it, the bill is expected to garner enough support in both chambers to override his veto and pass it into law. The creation of the Southern de-escalation zone in Syria showed a concrete result of the joint work between the two countries, Putin said.

But the European Union has also expressed concern about the sanctions, fearing that they might adversely affect its energy security.

North Korea year away from developing nuclear missiles that can reach US
A bigger cause for concern is that about 90 per cent of the Russian exports to North Korea are oil and mineral materials. That test prompted strong condemnation from world leaders, including U.S. president Donald Trump.
