Muppets: Kermit the Frog to Get a New Croak After 27 Years

Kermit the Frog is getting a new voice after it was revealed the actor behind him, Steve Whitmire, is stepping down after portraying the puppet for the past 27.

Whitmire has voiced the character since The Muppets creator Jim Henson's death in 1990. Whitmire was reportedly selected by Henson's son Brian to inherit the character.

Vogel is no stranger to the Muppets universe, either.

The visit wasn't mentioned in the Queen's Speech because a date hasn't been fixed yet '. It was said he did not want to visit while there was potential for protests against him.

His distinguishable nasal voice has become a trademark of the Muppets, so what will Kermit the Frog sound like now?

"Will you guys ask a reason for this?", one user wrote to fan site Tough Pigs, which replied "questions have been asked". Vogel's debut as Kermit is expected in next week's "Muppets Thought of the Week" video.

A spokeswoman for The Muppets Studio, which is owned by Disney, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Whitmire has been replaced by Muppets performer Matt Vogel. However, it's not known why Steve, who has been with the Muppets since 1978, is departing the role.

A representative for The Muppets Studio has been contacted by the Press Association for comment. "The Muppet Show" followed in 1976 and ended its run in 1982. He has voiced Sergeant Floyd Pepper, and The Associated Press notes that during his career he has also stepped into the roles of Big Bird and Count von Count.
