'President Trump believes the climate is changing': Ambassador Haley

Unlike other signatories to the Paris agreement, India has not agreed to cap or reduce its emissions outright but instead to greatly increase its use of green energy.

Haley told CNN that Trump will always have America's best interests at heart, including what he does in regard to protecting the environment. Rather, it's more likely that they seek to impose carbon-related tariffs on U.S. goods if these are deemed to be enjoying an unfair advantage because they are produced in an economy free of carbon restraints.

"Someday we may see this as the moment when we made a decision to save our planet", President Barack Obama said last September as he and Chinese President Xi Jinping formally joined the Paris climate accord, a move that compelled other countries to follow suit and led to the landmark deal officially entering into force that fall.

Republicans are largely optimistic about the economic benefits of leaving the climate agreement, with more than three-quarters saying Trump's decision will help the economy and 73 percent saying it will create more jobs like those in traditional energy than it will cost in the renewable-energy sector.

In addition, US crude stockpiles fell by 1.7 million barrels, less than the expected decline of 2.7 million barrels. ET, the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was down 160.94 points, or 1.05 per cent, to 15,218.61.

"There's a reason that President Obama didn't go through the Senate to get this cleared, because he couldn't". The regulations were unattainable. "Just because the USA got out of a club doesn't mean we aren't going to care about the environment", Haley said. She also said Trump knows the U.S. has to be "responsible" with climate change.

"We know that there are issues with the environment". We know that we have to be conscious of it. But we can't sit there and have Angela Merkel telling us to worry about Africa. She should continue doing her part.

Going by the name "We Are Still In", the coalition called itself "the broadest cross section of the American economy yet assembled in pursuit of climate action".

"We don't want other leaders and other countries laughing at us anymore. But American sovereignty matters", Haley said.

When asked in November if he believed human activity was connected to climate change, Trump acknowledged that there is "some connectivity". Baker and Scott last month urged Trump to continue the USA commitment to the climate agreement.

Wang Yao, vice-president of China's Green Finance Committee, said, "Whatever it brings to the United States, the key thing now is to deal with challenges left by the withdrawal of one of the world's largest emitters".

"We've done that in the past".

It has to be seen, the home minister added, in what circumstances the United States president made the statement on the Paris accord.
