Emergency Surgery: Steve Scalise In Critical Condition After Virginia Shooting

The Republican lawmaker was treated at a Washington hospital Wednesday after a single rifle shot struck his hip during a shooting attack at a GOP congressional baseball practice in suburban Virginia.

The president made his comments as he spoke in Miami to announce a new policy on Cuba.

Kerry knows of what he speaks: "Former Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that the Iran nuclear deal could hold even if President Donald Trump pulls out but he warned that imposing new economic sanctions against Tehran could be unsafe".

"We're not going to let incidents like this change our way of life or our daily routine".

Rep. Steve Scalise is still in critical condition, but his health is improving, the Congressman's surgeon said two days after Scalise was shot at a practice for the Congressional Baseball Game. The hospital planned to hold a briefing on his condition later in the day Friday.

Collaborative group to raise awareness against elder abuse
Many elderly adults are abused in their own homes, in relatives' homes, and even in facilities responsible for their care. The Victoria Park-based organisation says that one in 20 older people are the victims of elderly abuse .

Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks told CNN he realized Rep. Scalise was screaming because he had been shot.

Colleagues who visited Scalise at a Washington hospital sounded generally upbeat - but spoke more in terms of hopes than the confident predictions of the immediate aftermath a day earlier. The annual GOP-Democrats baseball game raises money for charity. The Democratic side won in a blowout, but the game was played in Scalise's honor with lawmakers of both parties dressed in purple in recognition of Scalise's Louisiana State University affiliation. Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Pa., left and Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, managers of the congressional baseball teams, shake hands during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Wednesday, June 14, 2017, where they talked abo.

After accepting it gracefully, Mr Barton cracked: "Next year we won't be so nice". More than 20,000 tickets to the baseball game had been sold by 4 p.m. Thursday, raising more than $1 million for underprivileged youth in Washington, D.C., according to Roll Call. As the bullet traveled across his body, it broke bones, tore up internal organs and caused major internal bleeding. He was one of four wounded by a gunman Wednesday in an attack on a Republican team practice in Virginia.

Gunman James Hodgkinson, from Belleville, Illinois, a home inspector, died after officers in Mr Scalise's security detail fired back at him. Authorities also were going over a cellphone, computer and camera taken from Hodgkinson's white van, which was parked near the ballfield.

The man's apparent Facebook page included strong criticism of Republicans and the Trump administration.

Coats refuses to discuss Trump conversations
The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Coats told associates Trump asked him to intervene with Comey in March. Rogers called the conversations "classified" and said it was inappropriate to discuss them "in an open forum".

"His condition is critical, and he will require additional operations", the hospital said. "Each and every harrowing recollection leaves us more thankful than ever for the Capitol Police - especially Special Agents Crystal Griner and David Bailey - and for every first responder".

Family members of Matt Mika say the MI native was shot multiple times in his chest and arm, and he remains in the intensive care unit in critical condition at George Washington University Hospital.

British ambassador Nigel Kim Darroch was originally scheduled to throw out the pitch.

Bailey was spotted Friday in the Capitol, on crutches and out of uniform, accepting congratulations from fellow officers.

Richmond didn't mention Hodgkinson, who was reported to have shared inflammatory rhetoric against government on his social media accounts, by name but he did speak strongly about a "mental health crisis in this country" and the current political climate.
