Scottish Episcopal church votes to allow same sex weddings

A vote by more than two-thirds of bishops, clergy and lay members meeting at the General Synod of the Scottish Episcopal Church means same-sex couples can now be Wednesday in their churches just like any other couple.

Members of the Church's houses of Bishops, Clergy and Laity were asked to vote on whether to replace Canon 31, the doctrinal clause stating that marriage is between a man and a woman.

The Church's teaching remains that marriage is only permitted between heterosexual couples, although gay clergy are permitted to live celibate lives in civil partnerships.

The vote at the Scottish Episcopal church general synod makes it the first Anglican church in the United Kingdom to allow same sex weddings, with the first ceremony likely to take place this autumn.

"This same decision is hard and hurtful for others whose integrity in faith tells them that this decision is unscriptural and profoundly wrong".

Trump Organization To Build 'American Idea' Hotels
Danziger wouldn't say how many American Idea hotels he hopes to build, but he talked big in an interview. Trump Hotels™ is a family enterprise with a history of providing extraordinary customer experiences.

They voted in favor of removing the note that marriage is between a man and a woman.

The issue has provoked passionate debate within the Anglican Communion.

But the Most Rev. David Chillingworth - who has been the head of the SEC since 2009 - celebrated the outcome of the vote as "the end of a long journey".

"A new chapter opens up and inclusion takes a particular form".

The Scottish Episcopal Church is Scotland's third largest church, and had over 54,000 ergistered members.

Israeli Army Radio: Saudi persuaded Trump to postpone embassy move
Trump was "very forceful" in his discussions with the two leaders, and "everyone has to compromise", Tillerson said. Trump has repeatedly underscored US support for Israel during his first worldwide trip as president.

The church said this meant that those who disagreed with gay marriage would be protected and not have to act against their conscience. No one is asking you to change your theology.

He went on: "As Secretary General, I want the churches within the Anglican Communion to remain committed to walking together in the love of Christ and to working out how we can maintain our unity and uphold the value of every individual in spite of deeply-held differences". The new canon was an official recognition of a diversity of viewpoints, he added. "But this vote is greater than allowing clerics to marry same-sex couples in church", she said.

A spokesperson for the Church of England said that the decision had been noted. A new conscience clause allows clergy to opt out of performing same sex weddings. We will be disobeying Jesus; changing the doctrine of marriage is a schismatic move that will damage our relations with our sisters and brothers throughout the AC.

The move, which raises the prospect of gay Christians from England, Wales and Northern Ireland heading to Scotland for a church wedding, was hailed by gay rights campaigners.

Archbishop Foley Beach, a senior figure in the group, said: "Today's decision by the Scottish Episcopal Church to change the biblical and historic definition of marriage has highlighted the need to respond to the cries and pleas of those Scots who today have been marginalized by their leaders".

Trump may not block Comey testimony
Congress is now investigating the possible Russian intervention in the presidential election, during which Donald Trump has won. Sure, Putin didn't even know who that guy was sitting next to him at a Moscow dinner ( Michael Flynn ).

Same sex marriage was legalised in Scotland in 2014.
