Ariana Grande takes stage to honor Manchester terror victims

The benefit concert comes just two weeks after a terrorist attack at Grande's Manchester "Dangerous Woman" show left 22 concertgoers dead and over 100 injured. All proceeds from the concert will go directly to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.

"As soon as I met her, I started crying and gave her a big hug and she said that I should stop crying because Olivia wouldn't have wanted me to cry".

"All we feel is love, resilience, positivity".

The lyrics to her hit love ballads seemed to take on special resonance in the wake of the May 22 attack: "I'm stronger than I've been before", Grande sang in "Break Free" as the audience cheered.

The audience also belted out fan favorite "Angels" with the singer.

Revellers dressed for the occasion, with many wearing tops featuring a bee - a symbol for Manchester - and slogans expressing their love for the city.

Ariana walked out on stage and stood in the middle of the children, which included two who were present at the May 22 concert, taking the time to put her arm around a crying young singer who was overwhelmed during her performance.

Grande sang multiple times throughout the three-hour-plus show, even duetting with Miley Cyrus, the Black Eyed Peas, Mac Miller and the Parrs Wood High School Choir, one of the show's strongest moments.

Perry encouraged everyone watching the show to touch the person next to them and tell them, "I love you", before launching into her hits "Part of Me" and "Roar".

The singer completely brought the house down when he appeared on stage with just a guitar.

Pharrell Williams then opened his performance with a rendition of Get Lucky, his hit with Daft Punk, before Miley Cyrus joined him on stage to perform Williams' hit Happy.

"It's not easy to always choose love, is it?" she asked the crowd.

Cyrus dedicated her new song Inspired "to all the people who have been affected by this tragic event".

Sunday's three-hour event, broadcast and live-streamed for an audience of millions on television and the Internet, was a moving expression of resilience - by both the performers and the crowd in Manchester, members of which could be seen enjoying themselves in handsome reaction shots filled with wide grins, hoisted drinks and children seated on their parents' shoulders.
