Congress committee members will 'demand' to see Comey's notes

Former FBI Director James Comey, who was sacked by President Donald Trump last week, has agreed to testify publicly before the Senate Intelligence Committee, according to several media reports Friday night.

Republican U.S. Senator John McCain of Arizona told "Fox News Sunday" he was left "speechless" by reports of Trump's remarks about Comey in the May 10 meeting with Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister and Sergei Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the United States."I don't know how to read it except that, I'm nearly speechless because I don't know why someone would say something like that", McCain said, adding that the president should never have met with the Russian officials.

Comey's highly anticipated testimony, which will be slated after the Memorial Day congressional recess, comes after he was sacked by Trump May 9 amid a mounting investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 election and possible ties between Trump campaign associates and that country.

The reports came just as Trump flew to Saudi Arabia to kick off his first foreign trip as U.S. leader - highlighting how the controversy over his team's alleged links to Moscow is dogging his fledgling presidency. They said in the statement the hearing would be scheduled after the 29 May Memorial Day holiday in the US.

"I am hopeful that he will clarify for the American people recent events that have been broadly reported in the media", panel Chairman Richard Burr said in a statement.

The Shadow Brokers stated that future leaks could include exploits and hacking tools for web browsers, routers and handsets. The US government has not commented directly on the matter.

Comey is set to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee in two weeks. "Given his commitment to the people and the mission of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, we expected him to be responsive to the senators responsible for vetting its next proposed leader". Trump has denied this, but regardless, Trump fired Comey soon thereafter.

"The sources emphasized that investigators remain keenly interested in people who previously wielded influence in the Trump campaign and administration but are no longer part of it, including former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort", the Post reported.

Comey is sure to face pointed questions from the committee about whether Trump directly asked him to squash the Flynn investigation and whether he thinks he was sacked for refusing.

"I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was insane, a real nut job", Trump told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov last week, according to the Times, citing notes taken at the meeting and read to the paper by a USA official. The alleged conversations were intercepted by US intelligence officials, according to CNN. In March, Kushner volunteered to answer lawmakers' questions about meetings he had with Russian officials during the transition.

She is scheduled to give a television interview on Thursday night and an announcement is expected by week's end. He also said there would be a meeting between the two countries' cabinet ministers in the near future.

"There is no collusion between certainly myself and my campaign, but I can always speak for myself, and the Russians - zero", Trump told reporters.

White House hopes that Trump could leave scandalous allegations at home were crushed in a one-two punch of revelations that landed shortly after his departure.

White House officials have said that the May 10 White House meeting among Trump, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak was a chance to discuss several issues.

Earlier Friday, deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein said he thought Trump's decision to fire Comey was the right call, providing his first public account of his role in the controversial dismissal.

"By grandstanding and politicizing the investigation into Russia's actions, James Comey created unnecessary pressure on our ability to engage and negotiate with Russia", Spicer said.
