The students were demanding action against security personnel who allegedly roughed up students during protests and the release of their arrested schoolmates. Witnesses said that students protested within the school premises in which they raised slogans in solidarity with the students of Pulwama college. The police raid led to widespread protests by students across Kashmir, which continues.

These had prompted the authorities to suspend the teaching work in the higher educational institutions for over a week last month as a precautionary measure.
