Nintendo Switch sales hit 2.74 million since launch

According to Takeshi Mochizuki, Wall Street Journal's technology reporter in Tokyo, on Twitter, "Nintendo CEO [Tatsumi Kimishima] said repeatedly there are "more unannounced titles" that should boost Switch itself's sales". This means it is looking to sell over 13 million units by April. He's the guy who would be aware that "Breath of the Wild" is a tremendous achievement long before it launched in March. The scale of the Switch's success in March surprised the market, analysts said, given that the launch missed the year-end holiday season, Nintendo's biggest profit-generating period.

The creator of the iconic Super Mario character launched the Switch in March and said it sold 2.74 million of the consoles in that month alone.

By far the most popular game for the Switch, Zelda: Breath of The Wild, is selling at a phenomenal rate.

In Engadget's recent post, it would be evident that Nintendo still sees some life on the 3DS by releasing major games on the 3DS. "As a home console, shipments would likely fall short of the Wii, but given that Switch users are less likely to be light users vs. the Wii base, we expect a higher tie ratio and profitability". No sales figures are available for the 1-2 Switch party game. In 2012, the company began including smartphone games in its demographic research, which brought the average age down-suggesting that the newest generation of gamers was eschewing the console for smartphones.

Nintendo did not disclose download numbers or revenue for individual mobile games, although its smart device income rose significantly year-on-year, from 5.73bn yen (£39m) up to 24.25bn yen (£169m). A result in line with its expectations would be a good improvement over the Yen29.4 billion profit for the year that ended March 31, which Nintendo also reported Thursday.

The 2012 Olympic heptathlon champion wants to see a clean summer as she prepares to collect her third World Championship gold. Great Britain's Kelly Sotherton, who originally placed fifth in the Beijing heptathlon, will now be upgraded to bronze.

Nintendo has also begun to offer games for smartphones, such as its smartphone action game "Super Mario Run", reversing its earlier policy of shunning them.

Nintendo has released their hardware and software sales figures for the last fiscal year, and there's some surprising info to be found in here. Nintendo 3DS software sales volume saw a 14 percent increase year-over-year to 55.08 million units.
