Facebook launches 'Marketplace' on app

Facebook launched Monday a "Marketplace" trading platform that lets users of the vast social network buy and sell goods with each other in a mighty challenge to the likes of eBay and Craigslist.

In past recent years, the rate of Facebook users using the site for buying and selling within private groups has risen exponentially. Marketplace adds to popular buy and sell groups already on the site - but, unlike these groups, doesn't require users to get approved before joining.

Selling an item will also be straightforward, according to the company.

Clinton could put away Trump by carrying North Carolina
The survey was conducted between September 27 and 30 and used 892 likely Virginia voters, with a 3.7 percent margin of error. The baseline poll released on September 26 showed Clinton led Trump 39 percent to 33 percent on the five-candidate ballot.

Items are sorted into categories that are titled, intuitively enough, things like Household, Apparel, and Electronics. This will make it easier for users to find items that they wish to purchase.

Once you open the Marketplace, you are greeted by a default grid of photos of items other users are selling nearby. However, you have to personally contact the person for payment details, unlike something that is well integrated in Craiglist. Marketplace isn't just about buying.

By our count, this is at least the fourth time Facebook has tried to clone Gumtree. After that, you enter a name, add a description, and set a price.

Borough summit to discuss Labour's future after Corbyn re-election
Smith, the former work and pensions spokesman, warmly congratulated Corbyn, but again ruled out returning to the shadow cabinet. Lilian Greenwood was among a number of local MPs to publicly abandon faith in Mr Corbyn .

And so the new Marketplace is meant as a destination for people looking to discover or sell things with people around them. It will be launched on both iOS and Android, so there's nothing to worry about its exclusivity. Also, Marketplace is only available in four countries: Australia, New Zealand, UK and the US. While you'll be limited to their name, profile picture and general location, it's still more than existing services including Craigslist offer.

"We will continue expanding to additional countries and make Marketplace available on the desktop version of Facebook in the coming months", Ku said. Certainly, it makes sense for Facebook to make further moves into this space, as it has north of 1.5 billion users globally and it could achieve real scale quickly.

This is it for now, folks. What's more: the Marketplace icon will appear in the Facebook app in lieu of the signature Messenger shortcut.

Should Dallas start Tony Romo when he's healthy?
Dallas targeted Week 8 for its veteran quarterback to return to the lineup, which gives Romo another four weeks of rehab. Romo injured his back during the preseason and was expected to miss about eight weeks of the regular season.

There are a few, mostly unsurprising, exclusions on what you can sell.
